Voyage

At night a cacophony of sounds can be heard on and below deck. Still seems quiet with only a few of us still able to breath. The crew sings shanties, the ropes creak, the sails react to the wind. Still, there's a silence. Still, there's a void. Slash has made the most of his time with stories exchanged and a mocked jovial demeanor. Under his mask of joy I see anguish and exhaustion.

I spend much of my time reading a tome given to me by the bard. Instruction lies within the creased spine like muscle memory for an aged back. Wisdom with age, covered in abrasions from over use. When I'm not studying I assist Lady Morwen with her form and stance. Her lithe body reacting to mine as we dance with our blades. She progresses each day.

Still too quiet. The noble's incessant protests stop only when he sleeps. I am glad to soon be rid of him. I know ultimately he's not to blame for our predicament, our loss and sorrows. As irrational as it may be I hold a resentment towards him still. Elhonna give me strength.

Soon we will be on land and after that the Gnarley. I long for the sanctuary of the trees, the respite from this outside world. Logically I know it will be short lived. Time doesn't wait for convenience. For now I will wait. For now I will rest my body even if my mind is never still.
